- M—Modify, magnify or minify: Alter shape, scale or emphasis; enlarge a pocket until it becomes the dominant panel.
- P—Put to another use: Reassign function; use drawcord channels as silhouette-control lines.
- E—Eliminate: Remove components; eliminate a conventional side seam to create a wrap construction.
- R—Reverse or rearrange: Invert order, direction or position; expose seam allowances or move a fastening from front to back.
- Limitation: Prompts generate variation, but outcomes still require evaluation for comfort, originality, manufacture and relevance to the concept.
IV. Print Development — Organizing Motif, Colour and Repeat

X. Deconstruction — Revealing and Reordering Garment Logic

Deconstruction challenges conventional garment construction by exposing, removing, relocating or reassembling familiar components.
- Exposure: Turn facings, linings, seam allowances, darts or interfacing outward so hidden construction becomes visible.

- Fragmentation: Separate a jacket into lapel, sleeve and body fragments, then reconnect them through ties or overlaps.

- Manipulation: Try pleating, gathering, smocking, quilting, bonding, distressing, melting, weaving or layering on labelled samples.
- Construction compatibility: Test seam type, needle, thread, stitch length and edge finish; lightweight silk requires different handling from neoprene.
- Unconventional materials: Paper, wire, plastic or recycled packaging may generate form, but skin contact, flexibility and durability require assessment.
- Sample record: Mount a measured swatch with fibre content, technique, tools and evaluation, such as “polyester organza heat-shaped at low controlled heat.”
- Selection criteria: Choose materials by concept, silhouette, comfort, maintenance, cost, availability, environmental impact and production feasibility.
