This course introduces Big Data fundamentals, Hadoop architecture, HDFS, MapReduce and YARN, along with Apache Hive, HBase and Cassandra. It develops skills in applying Big Data tools and techniques to analyze data and solve practical problems.

BYOD-Practical 1 50%

Real-world BYOD practical tasks requiring students to apply theoretical knowledge to data management challenges, such as reorganising HDFS data storage and moving files between directories for data archival. Hands-on evaluation covers Unit 1 and Unit 2: HDFS and MapReduce, respectively.

BYOD-Practical 2 50%

Real-world BYOD practical tasks requiring students to apply theoretical knowledge to data storage and retrieval challenges using Hive and HBase, including simulated data archival processes. Hands-on evaluation covers Unit 4 and Unit 5: Hive and HBase, respectively.

Subjective test covering syllabus from CA1 and CA2.
