This course introduces the history, classification, microscopy, morphology, and cell structure of microorganisms, including bacteria, algae, fungi, protozoa, and viruses. It also covers the isolation, preservation, growth, reproduction, and control of microorganisms, along with applications in microbial biotechnology.

The test will be subjective and will cover Units 1-2.

Week 3 / 4

Rubric
To assess the understanding of the students about the topics discussed in class. The rubrics are 3 questions x 10 marks = 30 marks.

Blog writing 30%

Students write about current technologies and research trends in microbiology, industrial products and information, interviews of successful microbial biotech entrepreneurs, job opportunities, international courses, leaders in microbial technology, the world economy, and microbial products. Assessment includes the online blog page, content and novelty, and social media outreach.

Week 8 / 10

Rubric
To enable students to become aware of various microbial biotechnology industries and their products, and to develop contact with the industries through social media posts that would help them with job placement. Blog page online: 10 marks; content and novelty: 15 marks; social media outreach: 5 marks.

Test 2 30%

Subjective test covering syllabus from CA1 and CA2 of 30 marks, with 3 questions of 10 marks each.

To make the students have a clear idea on the topic taught and sharpen their ability to write descriptive and analytical answers.
