FSC104 — Forensic Dermatoglyphics And Impression Analysis

Students will be assessed on their ability to explain the history, biological basis, ridge characteristics, and classification of fingerprints; describe fingerprint collection, development, preservation, and enhancement techniques; analyze modern advancements including AFIT, biometric identification, micro X-ray fluorescence, and emerging fingerprint development techniques; and apply fingerprint concepts to solve forensic case-based problems. Marks Distribution: 5 Questions × 2 Marks = 10 Marks and 4 Questions × 5 Marks = 20 Marks from Unit I–Unit III.

Students will prepare an individual assignment based on Units IV–VI, assessed on their ability to explain different types of impression evidences and their forensic significance; analyze methods used for collection, casting, lifting, preservation, and comparison of impression evidences; evaluate advanced techniques including forensic photography, image enhancement, facial reconstruction, and impression databases; and present a well-structured report with illustrations, case studies, and references. Marks Distribution: Conceptual understanding and technical accuracy – 10, Critical analysis and application – 10, Report organization/presentation/originality/references – 5, Viva Voce – 5.

To develop students' understanding of various impression evidences, their development techniques, and modern methods of impression evidence analysis through research and case-based learning

Students will be assessed on their ability to explain concepts related to dermatoglyphics, fingerprint examination, and impression evidence; apply fingerprint and impression development techniques to forensic investigations; analyze technological advancements and modern tools used in fingerprint and impression analysis; and integrate concepts from all six units to solve forensic identification and crime scene investigation problems. Marks Distribution (30 Marks): Section A: 5 Questions × 2 Marks = 10 Marks; Section B: 4 Questions × 5 Marks = 20 Marks from Unit I–Unit VI.
